Hi! I’m Mary Beth Zentner and I am so glad you are here.
Adventures of a ZGirl began as a way to share the adventures I experienced both on my own and with my two daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah. Together, we are the ZGirls.
After my divorce in 2004, the three of us bonded together in a way that can never be broken. While transitioning to single motherhood had its challenges, the adventures that life brought us were exciting, crazy, difficult and beyond memorable. Now, my daughters have grown and are forging their own adventures. We are still close and try to travel and adventure together when possible, but for the most part I am now going it solo.
Growing up the daughter of a Navy pilot, my life was always on the go. We moved eight times before I graduated from High School. Whenever anyone asks me where I’m from, I always have to quantify the answer with “Do you want to know where I was born? Where I lived the longest? Where I graduated from high school? Etc.” I’m thankful now for the nomadic lifestyle we had, for it instilled in me a desire to see and experience new places and people.
In my married years it was to a member of the Air Force. My nomadic life continued and I lived in eight places before being literally dumped in Las Vegas in 2004. Now, I consider Vegas my home and have come to love the desert and all the heat that comes with it.
Upon my dumping, I had to figure out what to do quickly and I fell into education. I was a teacher and administrator for 15 years and loved working with and mentoring young people. During this time, I was also able to develop a musical theatre program for students, directing and producing musicals for elementary and middle school. Theatre is one of my loves and working with kids as a teacher/director, as well as performing myself fulfills my soul.
Through these years I have always traveled whenever I was able. I love setting off to a new place and experiencing what it has to offer. I am a huge History nerd and any time I can incorporate historical locations and events into my travel, I absolutely do.
Life threw me a curve in 2019 and I quit my job as an administrator to focus on other aspects of my life. I have an older parent who needs some care and working full time in education just wasn’t giving me the ability to focus on some of the more important aspects of my life.
Quitting my job was the most scary and exciting undertakings I have embarked on yet. While there is always a little uncertainty, I love the opportunities it has opened for me. Looking ahead I see only blue skies and adventure ahead. This ZGirl is ready and open to just about anything, even the bumps in the road.
If you have any questions about me or anything else you’ve read here, I always reply to my emails and direct messages on Instagram. I love connecting with my readers and am so grateful for those of you who follow along and share my adventures. Life is short – let’s enjoy it together!
